Pathway to Aging in Place

All human beings need social connections to stay healthy and thrive. This is especially true for older adults who live independently.

Social Connectedness Several factors cause family members and friends to separate and many times older adults find themselves isolated from the people who once were close to them. Scarce resources only exacerbate this problem for seniors living in affordable housing. Social isolation and loneliness have a negative impact on mental health, and are linked to negative physical health factors, such as higher blood pressure, heart disease, early onset of dementia, and increased susceptibility to influenza and other infectious diseases.
